A Spectacular Opening Ceremony Set to Kickstart the Celebration of Inclusivity, Culture, and Community

The anticipation is mounting as the Rainbow Games 2024 gears up to commence with a dazzling Opening Ceremony at the Viaduct Events Centre in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland on Thursday 4 April 2024. This grand event promises an immersive experience, welcoming participants in true Tāmaki Makaurau style, while setting the stage for the following four days of thrilling community sports, arts, and culture.

The Rainbow Games’ Opening Ceremony is an exclusive affair, offering priority access solely to registered participants, making it a prime opportunity for attendees to immerse themselves in the vibrant spirit of the event. From 12 noon, registered participants will have the chance to collect their player accreditation, a goodie bag, and explore the breathtaking Tāmaki Makaurau waterfront before the Opening Ceremony begins at 7pm. Doors will open for the Opening Ceremony from 6pm, with a cash bar available.

Produced by the renowned DJ and rainbow-entertainment maestro, Jordan Eskra, the ceremony promises an eclectic showcase of Aotearoa's finest queer, Māori, and Pasifika artists. Confirmed acts for the evening include the iconic Anika Moa, sensational RuPaul's Drag Race star Anita Wigl'it, glamorous Drag King Hugo Grrrl and the award-winning singer-songwriter PAIGE, all skilfully hosted by the fabulous Luke Bird. Attendees can expect a mesmerizing Kapa Haka and more artists celebrating of diversity, ensuring an unforgettable kick-off to the Rainbow Games 2024.

The Viaduct Events Centre will serve as the perfect stage for this grand welcome, setting the tone for the days ahead filled with over 10 sports events and an arts and culture programme at the Trusts Arena and nearby venues. Registered participants not only gain access to the Opening Ceremony but also enjoy exclusive benefits, including; participation in one sport of their choice, player accreditation, a goodie bag, access to arts and culture activities, transport options, and a ticket to the closing function.
